Bread and Butter Pickles

  • 5 1/2 cups pickling cucumbers – thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 1 cup onion thinly sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp celery seed
  • 1/8 tsp ground turmeric

Cut cucumbers into 1/4 slices, and apply the salt in a strainer, the goal being to release some of the water

In a sauce pan combine the remaining ingredients over medium heat, and continue until the sugars are completely dissolved.

Allow the brine to cool and pour over the cucumbers, close the lid and shake some.
